BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY

Well not actually...a little early perhaps : It was July 1, 1832 when Joseph F. Knapp came into this world. As red blooded as any American can be, he hosted 4 US Presidents and many Civil War Generals at his home in Brooklyn from the 1860's-1891. Memorial Day and July 4th were always big days at the corner of Ross St & Bedford Ave. in the Knapp mansion. And July was significant month for Mr. Knapp even after he departed this world. This article appeared in the Brooklyn Eagle several years after he died.

AND THERE IS OUR RUNAWAY STILL DOWNRIGHT UPRIGHT IN 2001
