Libaire Scrapbook : Part Two
Last year I posted a photo album of the Libaire Family with photos taken at both Moriches & Oakdale from 1900-1950's, Last week Jack Libaire son of the late Johnny Libaire (1913-2004) found a few more gems for me.
Most were taken between 1930-1940's. With a heavy emphasis on Boats and Automobiles
For a history of this family and a look back further make sure you see the original scrapbook here

"A FEW MINOR ADJUSTMENTS TO BILL'S OLD BOAT ......."
and we will be on our way. No doubt about location here. It is Moriches Bay That is probably Priscilla Sturges of the Sturges - Masury family riding with Johnny Libaire and Biddie Fenner or Bill Starke who seem to be intent on adjusting something on the 400 horsepower Liberty V12 engine. On the shoreline are the Henry and Joseph McAleenan Estates of which only Henry's (the left one) still stands. Johnny had recently purchased the boat for $175.00 from Otis "Oak" Palmer who built it in the late 1920's for Bill Dana. The price was right even if the old WWI aircraft power plant was balky. Photo is dated September 8, 1940.

"GO JOHNNY GO "
photo by : Smith Hempstone Oliver
Turning hard left long before NASCAR was around. Johnny Libaire at the wheel of his 1921 Mercer Racerbout. Location unknown but it appears to be near the water. Both Libaire homes in Oakdale & Moriches were on the water. Jack still has the car.

This is probably on the Libaire property on Union Ave, Center Moriches. Senix creek runs right along it. That's the Mercer
at rest under the tree.

Mahogony Runabouts
Doesn't matter if they are Chris Craft, Hacker, Dodge, Gar - Wood, etc . For me they are as good as it gets.
The captain is unidentified.

SAPPHIRE
I believe this is the "Sapphire" a fine lined 36' 4" Mahogony runabout with a 125 HP engine that John owned in the summer of 1934. It was part of a trade that included a little cash and two Rolls Royces. Location appears to be Senix creek.
The Rolls Limo
The Rolls Phaeton (A convertible sedan) The plate is 1936

MEANWHILE BACK AT THE DOCK
Looks like Johnny & friend are cleaning the spark plugs all 24 of them, while the first mate on the left works on her tan. Can you ever imagine how LOUD that thing was?
