STILL SLEDDING

Recently the fine folks at Mystic Seaport Museum did some digging through their archives at my request for photos of the Sea Sled company during the time that the Knapp's owned it (1924-1933)

Of course I was hoping for one or two photos of the owner and his son, but I guess they were too busy field testing the merchandise to stop by and participate in a photo op....not the Knapp style anyway.

These photos look like they were taken from motion picture film and of course the fact that I still don't have a positive close up of Joseph F. Knapp, I couldn't say if he is participating in the merriment on the dock or not.

The Year Was 1926 and it looks like almost everyone wants to be a captain except the guy in the Black hat who probably is the Captain. These guys are with Mr. Whalen's Party and my bet is that Mr. Whalen is none other than Grover Whalen who was the official greeter for the City Of NY in the teens and twenties and later the President of the 1939 Worlds Fair. The third guy from the left (only one hatless) could be him and the next to last guy is wearing his hat at the jaunty angle J P Knapp always seemed to wear his hats at. But it's just too blurry to tell .

ROARING TWENTIES

If you couldn't roar then when could ya? Whenever I see horns near boats I'm reminded of that classic piece of cinema from

Laurel & Hardy titled "Saps At Sea"

And Away We Go

Speaking Of Roaring

Don't Try This At Home Kids

I recently made the aquaintence of a gentleman who is restoring two 1931 Sea Sleds

like the one above. I'm hoping he might want to share his photos of the restoration progress
