SPARKS WILL FLY !

Not If The Lawrences Have Their Way...........

The Scientific American magazine which has been around since the 1840's had this item as it's lead invention in the household utilities section of a May 1908 issue. It appears there may of been a third Lawrence involved whose first name was omitted. That most likely would be Louise C. M. Lawrence,Frank's new bride of five months.

Frank who ran a coal company,or either Lawrence lady could of been the spark plug for this idea. Hannah Lawrence just had her "Woodhull Lodge" extensively remodeled a few years before. It had two fireplaces and dual chimneys. And Louise who was new to Mastic, certainly would not want her new 22 room honeymoon cottage with it's 3 Chimneys and 6 Fireplaces to catch fire.

It was Frank and Louise who sold their place to the Knapps in 1916. From that point on till its fiery end in 1959 it was known as the Knapp Mansion.
