WHAT DO YOU WANT?

An Engraved Invitation ?

Well Here You Go... Hot Off The Steam Press Of

The Major & Knapp Eng.Mfg.& Lith.Co. 56-58 Park Pl.NY.

( notice how the President, who was Grover Cleveland then, is not mentioned by name and is set in rather plain type compared to his host ...that could be because Cleveland was a Democrat?) The Knapps hosted Candidate Lincoln, along with Presidents Grant, Arthur, Cleveland and Harrison at their Bedford Av home. Phoebe Knapp hosted McKinley at her NY Hotel Suite. Those stories are in The Knapps Lived Here book

BUT SERIOUSLY FOLKS

The purpose of this page is to speak to those of you who may of visited this website with just one interest, purpose, or perhaps you may of stumbled upon it and thought ...

WHAT THE HECK IS THIS WEB SITE ALL ABOUT ?... IT LOOKS TOO CONFUSING ????

Well in the past ten years it has grown quite a bit, into what I like to now call a kind of theme park if you will.

That said , allow me to point out a few features you might not know about or never thought would also be mixed in with these Knapp people.

"BUZZ & PEE WEE. BUTCHIE & ME" A GROUP OF STORIES ABOUT GROWING UP IN THE 1950's - 60's

That's what started this site and there are quite a few of them... all true too!

THEY ARE LOCATED HERE

MASTIC AREA HISTORY & NOSTALGIA ( Mastic , Moriches, Mastic Beach, Shirley ) : Because that's the area I grew up in, there is more than an abundance of it, including hundreds of photos, news items, maps etc. It's all through the Knapp site, because the Knapps lived there too, but there is also a separate newly updated menu of nothing but Mastic area links that may be helpful in finding what you came for.

THEY ARE LOCATED HERE

MUSIC MUSIC MUSIC ! What can I say? I have been a musician and songwriter for about 90% of my 60 odd years. Many pages throughout the website have music links on them that will play a song related somehow to the subject of the page. Take the time out to click and give them a listen. There are also multiple pages that pay tribute to musicians and song writers of all types that I have had the pleasure to work with or who had strong influences on my career. In 2010 the historian in me started a new section of pages called "LONG ISLAND R & R BAR BAND HISTORY" That recalls many of the bands I knew back then and some of the ones I was in too. For 2011 I plan on adding more music and more about my time working as a tunesmith here in Nashville.

SPOTLIGHT PHOTO ARCHIVES : If you like looking at old and RARE photographs, (now nearing 100 ) mainly related to the Mastic area but not exclusively, well just click on the link.

THE WEB GLOB : I don't blog , I glob, and you only have to read one of the 50 some entries to figure out what GLOBBING is. But there is something of interest for just about everyone on there, Whatever gets me fired up at the moment, is what I write about.

WILLIAM FLOYD SCHOOL : It's where I went to school K - 12 from the day it opened in September of 1952 till June of 1964. If you spent any time there during those years, you may want to look back at it here. I am always looking for new old photos and adding them in when I find them too.

SPOONER STUFF: Mostly about my grandfather John Jack Spooner, who spent decades in New York City from 1906 - 1958 catering to celebrities of all types, Movie Stars e.g. Liz Taylor, Cary Grant, Comedians: George Burns, Groucho Marx, Milton Berle, Jack Benny, Athletes: Jack Dempsey, Babe Ruth, Polticians: FDR, Jimmy Walker, The Kennedys, Musicians: Benny Goodman, Bing Crosby, Ozzie Nelson, Songwriters: Irving Berlin, J, Fred Coots, Authors, Ernest Hemingway, James Michener, Journalists: Ed Sullivan, Walter Winchell, Artists James Montgomery Flagg ( UNCLE SAM) and Cartoonists, Royalty and more. During his 3 decade stint as the maître D at The Stork Club "NEW YORKS, NEW YORKIEST PLACE" ...Walter Winchell , Grandpa knew on a personal basis, just about everyone you could think of who was in the news from the Roaring 20's through the mid 1950's. Here is a a good starting place to see what I'm talking about

Besides all that, there are many specialized subjects that deal with the variety of personal and business interests the Knapps ( "Remember there is always a Knapp Connection" ) were involved with. e.g. Lithography , Publishing of Magazines, Books, Newspapers, the Printing Arts. Because they were three generations of millionaires, that spanned two centuries, from the start of the Civil War through the start of the Cold One, it gets pretty interesting. There is stuff on here about yachting, boat racing, golf, early aviation, dog and horse shows, kennels, fly fishing, deep sea fishing, and living the good life where ever the Knapps hung their hats in general. Besides the main menu page with highlighted sections, there is also an onboard search engine, located in the center of the main menu, that will search the site exclusively. It's powered by Google and works well with just a keyword or two, It should help you quickly find or refind something. There is also two pages of archived links in large print, that cover everything that was added to the site from 2000-2006.

Best of all, all of this is free ! Not because I'm a millionaire either. I do take small donations to help pay for the web site hosting, because that sure isn't free, but I can't tell you the last time I even mentioned it on here. It must be over 5 years now. There are no annoying pop up ads and there never will be. The few and far between ads that are on here, are discretely embedded links and they help pay for the bandwith,

FEEDBACK ... I ALWAYS ENJOY HEARING FROM ANYONE ABOUT ANYTHING THEY SAW OR THINK THEY SAW ON SPOONERCENTRAL.COM.... you can reach me right here any old time

HAPPY NEW YEAR
