"THE WONDER YEARS"
The paint was barely dry on the BRAND NEW William Floyd School in it's first full year of operation Sept 1952 - June of 1953. Somewhere during those months this photo was taken of Miss Russo's 3rd Grade Class. Many of these kids would go entire distance and become the third senior class to graduate from Floyd in 1962. This photo arrived from Colorodo courtesy of Frank Casteleneto who only went to Floyd that one year. Frank is a cousin to the Messinetti, Dipierro, Calabria, Calabro, and Siriani families or as I sometimes refer to them ....... half of Section 4 & 5.

MRS. NELSON'S HOMEROOM 1957
Astute readers of the Floyd portion of this website may already be saying WAIT A MINUTE!!!...YOU ALREADY HAVE MRS. NELSON's 1957 CLASS ON HERE...TO WHICH I WOULD SAY YOU'RE ARE RIGHT GRASSHOPPER...BUT AS SURE AS POPE GREGORY XIII WENT AND MESSED WITH THE CALENDER IN 1582, FLOYD SCHOOL PHOTOGS HAD A HABIT OF SHOWING UP EITHER ROUND NOVEMBER OR JANUARY OF ANY GIVEN YEAR IN THE 50's and 60's THEREBY CAUSING CONFUSION FOR ALL SHARP EYED HISTORIANS DECADES LATER......
That said let us move on with the photo at hand, that consists mainly of these new Jr. High 7th grade folks who would if they stayed on through all four years of high school at Floyd, leave with a diploma in June of 1963.
ID's are still sparse but some of the folks definitely recognized in this crowd are: Larry Collins, Dorothy Vignali, June Johnson, Millie Bonanno, Dennis Avelli, Michael DiNicola, Helen Stefano, Toni McCallif, Louis Farava, Mario Sotomyer, Ritchie Kappel . (RARE PHOTO of Ritchie...Blonde smiley kid behind Mrs. Nelson's left shoulder ) Ritchie and I were hanging around with each other that year. Possibles in here are Frank Miller, Mary McHugh , Maureen Murphy, Bill Pollack, Looks like Russel Anzalone up in the top left and Vinnie Sussino top right.

Karen Hofmann, Lorraine Rudek and Alicia Patera of the future Class of 1964 on the playground of the Annex . I believe that is Mrs. Tribble's Austin parked behind the station wagon of Woody Hawkins.
"We were three little girls from school" goes the opening line of 80's Ladies, K. T. Oslin's signature song . K. T another transported New Yawk songwriter arrived here in Tune Town about a year before I did in the late 1980's..... If you got a fast connection in your computer click your mouse on that 1946 Airline radio and give this great song a listen.
