Mastic Beach 1959 & 1965

Since the first one was held in 1938 Mastic Beach folks have paraded along Neighborhood Road on Memorial Day, and other days and occasions like the Fourth Of July , Firemans Carnivals etc. Former M B native and new "Knappster" Jim Hegeman, sent me these photos and some others too like the aftermath of the hurricane of 1938 that I'll be working in to the website. At the bottom of this page are links to other parade pics from '30's-60's

Kickng it off in 1965 : Here comes the color guard of the MBFD band wearing the blue and gold. Speaking of gold, if I had a nickel for every dime I dropped at the 5 & 10 cent store buying cap guns, water pistols, plastic model kits, toy cars and boats and phonograph records... I could afford to buy that yellow '61 Caddy Convert today!

That's Jim carrying Old Glory for Troop 121. Nice '58 Chev too.

1959 Dennis Schulz is holding the banner up on the right side as his mother Estelle keeps an eye on her den. In August of that year my mother marched me back into Vinnie's barber shop to refine my new Detroit Style haircut that wouldn't pass muster with her.

DEN MOTHER DRILLERS!

On the Left: The Anchor Inn & part of the Red Barn of the estate "Pattersquash" are visible as the Cubbies march past the Fire house.

Estelle used to drill her den in front of her home on Phyliss Road much to the delite of Pete "you kids go play someplace else" Scimeca her neighbor.
